It’s All About The ‘Ships’

Happy November 2023 JVB Consults Readers!

As we step into November 2023, a month that embodies reflection, family spirit and gratitude, it seems only fitting to explore a concept that in these days seems to be lost in the world of business collaboration.

In my opinion, it’s a little disheartening to see how businesses have become so self-absorbed and competitive. The ‘Me’ culture has taken center stage…

Whatever happen to mentorships, partnerships the once-rich tradition of experienced individuals imparting knowledge and wisdom to the next generation- has it withered away? Knowledge itself is a treasure and shouldn’t be hidden from the rest of the world, as if it wasn’t provided to us, by someone else.

Now every business interaction seems to be a transactional one. I long for the days where business owners engaged with the community not in spite of financial gain but out of a genuine desire to make the world a better place through their service.

It's a pitty that businesses thrive on competition. Competition has long been hailed as the driving force behind innovation and growth however, it's essential to reframe this narrative. What if, instead of being entrenched in petty rivalries, we embraced the idea that there's ample space for everyone in the marketplace? What if, instead of tearing each other down, businesses chose to collaborate with one another? By joining forces, they could take the market by storm, and business revenue would naturally flow.

Now money is often seen as the root of all evil, but it doesn't have to be that way. It's possible to do business together and enjoy the journey together. As your business grows, it becomes essential to uplift those around you. Let's consider an everyday example: imagine you're the owner of a successful restaurant. If your sole focus is on the bottom line, you might neglect other aspects like the development and well-being of your kitchen staff etc. However, by recognizing their potential and investing in their growth, you're not only ensuring the continued excellence of your current restaurant but also cultivating a pool of talented individuals who could help you open and run future restaurants.

Each person and each company have a unique calling, and there's no need for jealousy or selfishness. There is truly room for everyone. Each business, no matter its size or sector, has a unique role to play.

Business success often paints a lonely picture at the top. Yet, it's crucial to remember that people need people. At the end of the day, business is about the “ships”: relationships, mentorships, and partnerships. It's a network of individuals with their own talents and insights, coming together to achieve something greater. Success is not a solo journey, it's a tapestry of shared victories.

Until Next Time,

Be Kind With Yourself. Be Patient With Yourself.

All My Best,

- JVB
